WALK YOUR WAY TO RUNNING A 5K SM
Essential Information
What you need to know to start Walk Your Way To Running A 5K Program:
1. I keep my groups small so I know all of you and can motivate you every training. I work with you and will push you when you need to be pushed. My job is to be there for you when I see you and when you are home working on the additional specific trainings I gave you to do each week. This is a unique training program that works because of my personal approach.
2. Don't be nervous. Get excited about doing this program. This will be a great experience that can lead to creating new healthy habits for life.
3. Jogging strollers are permitted.
4. Don't worry about how slow you are. The program allows each person in the group to go at their own pace and still get the same training.
5. DO THIS PROGRAM WITH A CERTIFIED RUNNING & WALKING COACH. LEARN FROM SOMEONE THAT KNOWS THE SPORT AND HAS DEVELOPED THIS PROGRAM FOR BEGINNERS. BE CAREFUL OF PROGRAMS THAT GROUP TOGETHER BEGINNERS WITH ADVANCED RUNNERS. Use a program that has a runner for a coach, who has run long and short distance races, has placed in races and who is committed on getting you to where you want to be.
6. Anyone can do this! I was not a runner in high school. I never ran until I was 35 years old and trying to get off that baby fat (sorry Noelle- but you were responsible). And I didn't run my first 5k until a year later because I was too afraid. With this program, you will have a coach to help you do a 5k in 12 weeks.
7. The schedule - our lives are crazy, things come up and kids get sick. We never know what will come up. If you have to miss a class, I will give you a workout to do on your own so you stay on schedule. (also -if another class is running on a different day, you may attend that class).
8. I can help you and guide you to getting healthy, and losing weight but you are responsible for your own steps to get there. The formula to weight loss and fitness is very simple- work out 4 to 5 days a week and eat less! No magic pills, no secrets- just hard work and healthy eating and most importantly, you must follow this formula FOREVER!!

Sneakers are an essential part of your workout plan and need to be bought with care and consideration. Here are some rules to follow:
- Buy your sneakers at a specialty running store. You can spend between $65 to $100 dollars for a good running shoe. Take the time to go to a store where the employees know about running and can size you correctly. You should be able to take a quick run outside the store in each pair of sneakers you try to feel and compare the shoes.
- Keep the box and receipt. If you buy from a good store, they will allow you to return the sneakers even after wearing them once or twice. If you are feeling a lot of pain or getting blisters, bring them back immediately and try a new type.
- Keep track when you made your purchase. You want to know when to buy new sneakers so it is important to keep a log with the date your purchased them and about how many miles you are running with them.
- ONLY WEAR YOUR NEW SNEAKERS WHEN RUNNING. Keep your running sneakers for running and your everyday sneakers for everyday.

Breathable fabrics suck moisture off your skin and transport it to the outer surface of the garment where it can evaporate and keep you cool. Cotton is not a good fabric to wear on your body including your feet. Some known brands for "breathable" materials are CoolMax, Supplex, and Dri-F.I.T. Figure out what you are wearing ahead of time and make sure you are comfortable in the outfit.
